I came to Amazon to order a new one but, after reading these reviews, will purchase it locally instead. My reasoning is that, if I do get a machine that lets me down, at least I won't have to pay the shipping both ways, and on something as heavy as a bread maker. Amazon offers free shipping but, if you return it, they will charge back the shipping both ways (or at least they did that on another product that I returned because it was defective.) The price is the same at Wal-Mart. That said, as others have mentioned, the book that came with the machine is pretty basic. It will walk you through making your first loaf of bread though. If you would like to see the manual before purchasing, you can download it on Oster's main website. There are loads of bread-machine recipes out there on the web (too many to ever try!) and I haven't had any problems using this machine to make them.
