CES 2012: First Impressions of a CES First Timer
Last week I came forward to discuss my thoughts and fears about what would be my first CES experience. Well, I've touched down in 'Vegas and after press day, can only imagine how crazy the next batch of days will be.
When I arrived in ‘Vegas on Sunday, I finally got to see one of the most infamous city in a very up-close and personal manner. I toured the strip, avoided some of the "personalities" that frequent it, and got to see the bright lights of a city that rarely sleeps. Then of course, when the alarm sounded on Monday, it was time to stop being a tourist, and get to being a member of the media for press day.
As I arrived at the Venetian for the festivities, I was in awe of just the sheer volume of people that infiltrated the rooms to check out the big announcements of the day. Of course, I understand why people showed up in such droves, but damn, sometimes it felt as if all of us media types were just cattle lined up to get to the meat grinder.
I've waited in line many of times in my life to get into highly anticipated events, but at least with those, you had a pretty good idea as to what exactly you're waiting for. For something like a press conference, you never know. Some companies can blow your mind apart with the news and developments in which they choose to share, while others put you to sleep with the lack of announcements they have. The latter, naturally, make you wonder what the waiting was for.
