Knights out to defend state title
The Hisco Knights Legion A baseball team might not be bringing the same sparkling record into the state tournament that it did last summer.What the Knights do have is a team full of veteran players who were a part of last year`s Legion A state title team and half full of hungry youngsters grizzled by a meat grinder schedule this summer. And Fairview`s summer team also gets to play on its home field this year.
The Knights host the eight-team state tournament that begins at 8 a.m. today at FHS` Bauldie Moschetti Field. The tourney runs through Sunday, with Saturday`s games being played both at Fairview and Scott Carpenter Park to accommodate a schedule that was condensed from five days to four earlier this week.
"It`s kind of a different feel," Knights coach Rick Harig said of this year`s team. "But it`s not like we have any other plans than trying to win this thing."
Seven other teams will likely be coming in with similar mindsets.
