Bikini Season: Are You Comfortable in Your Own Skin?
The girl in the Connie Francis song wore an itsy, bitsy, teenie, weenie yellow polka-dot bikini.
I did not.
I guess I could have if I was comfortable in my skin.
Bikini’s were the dominant swimming attire on the beach in North Carolina. It was not just the teens and tweens. Grandma, mother and daughter together worked on their tans and frolicked in the ocean in their two piece French creation.
Some of the bodies on the beach were toned and some needed a few more sit-ups. I salute the ladies on the beach who don’t care what you think about their less than perfect bodies. They wear their bikini because it is comfortable and they always wear a two piece. But I do admit have I have had a few gasps of “did she look at herself in the mirror before she left the house.”
Why do moms torment ourselves with body image and just not roll with the tide?
My honeymoon in Greece was an eye-opener. The resort we stayed at was filled with Europeans and one American couple – us. The ladies lounged by the pool and tanned on the beach topless regardless of age or perkiness. Being a true Victorian influenced American I kept my top on.
