How tight is the integration between Sony products? For instance, if you plug a Sony blu-ray player in to a Sony tv, can you control it through the TV (directly through the TV remote without changing functions or changing remotes)? How about digital cable/satellite? How easy can you make watching and recording shows? How can you can you make what I would describe as the “TV experience” for the majority of people seamless and foolproof?
My grandparents have a Sony TV (I think it’s a Bravia). And I recently setup a Sony Blu-Ray player for them, with Netflix and all.. but the integration I saw was pretty nonexistent: going to a list of input devices and choosing “Blu-Ray” or something – at least it said it was a blu-ray player! – then switching remotes…). Is this the same way for all Sony’s products, or was this just a cheap TV?
We’re in the year 2011. HDMI cables are digital and can communicate both ways simultaneously. Why are we still using paradigms based on one-way analog output-to-input cables where every device was a separate entity?
